Kim, Digiulian, Markovic and five Austrians get to the finals. Arco ready to award the new Lead World Championship today. Team Speed comps scheduled this evening

Jain Kim of South Korea, Sasha Digiulian of the US, Mina Markovic of Slovenia and five Austrians go through to the final round, scheduled at 10pm tonight.

Kim was the last of the 26 semifinalists to get on the World Championship wall this afternoon, and smoothly danced all the way up to the very last handholds. She could not reach the top, but nobody made it, along the extremely demanding route set in Arco. Team Austria impressed in terms of technical skills and strength and placed five athletes in the final competition. Magdalena Röck, born 1994 is Austria’s youngest athlete at this Championship. She was incredibly relaxed and reached the roof section with ease, as countrywomen Eiter, Posch, Schranz and reigning World Champion Ernst did. However, any of them could make better than Kim did.

After having barely passed the qualification stage, Mina Markovic of Slovenia showed up in this semis all guns blazing and eventually placed in 6th position, ahead of Schranz and Digiulian. Italy’s lead champion Jenny Lavarda did her best but could not make in into the finals, as Eyer (SUI), Gros (SLO), Vidmar (SLO), Chereshneva (RUS) and Kobayashi (JPN).

The eight finalists will be back on the wall, fighting for gold, at 10pm. You better not miss it also on www.ifsc.tv.

At 7pm, the first ever World Championship Team Speed competition will take place at the Climbing Stadium with the fastest climbers in the world (19 teams) battling it out in the qualifying round, followed by the finals at 8pm (live on www.ifsc.tv).
